Historic restoration - Old barn conversions and renovations
Parker Structural Restoration has been in historic restoration and renovations business for 30 years
Old barn conversions and renovations can take a crumbling piece of history and inject new life and purpose into the building. Recently we were contracted to dismantle the 250 year old Crossroads Inn in Swanzey. NH. In this particular instance, the historic restoration included disassembling the building and reassembling it in a different location. Great care is taken to preserve the integrity, to showcase the age and history of the building. Parker acquired the building from the previous owner who found it too expensive to maintain. "It was a case of demolishing it or finding someone who could reuse it", stated the former owner.
Through his network developed by 30 years in this business, Parker Structural Restoration learned of the building, purchased it, dismantled it and through the company web site, was able to reassemble this historic building as a new home for a family in Connecticut.
The former inn, which was once a stagecoach stop, was built in two stages - in 1750 and 1805. Half the interior will form what Parker calls cathedral construction, with exposed posts and beam construction and no second or third floors to block the view. The older portion of the interior will become a country kitchen.
There is a wonderful "feel" to newly reassembled buildings, an atmosphere unlike any other. Obviously some interior walls and ceilings, the insulation, plumbing, heating, and electrical work will be modern, but there is no mistaking that you have interred into a piece of history. Parker also provides contemporary furniture designs made with these recycled antique woods to complement any room.
